Boards, Value & Membership Bodies


Membership bodies have had a bad press recently. In the UK, for example, there has been extensive media coverage of the tribulations of a leading membership/industry body, which had become the main interlocutor between business and government in particular for larger companies.

Media attention focused on what seemed to be from the outside a problematic culture. Heads rolled; reputations were tarnished and both businesses and government pulled back. Nor is this situation unique with other industry bodies in the UK and internationally having also faced intense media coverage and similar challenges.

The success (or failure) of membership bodies matters. Fidelio’s focus is building Board capability to drive value. Membership bodies have an integral role as business engages with government and stakeholders; the success of membership bodies also requires a high degree of effective governance.
