The Advisory Board has a history as long, if not longer, than the Board.
There is a degree of cyclicality. At times of a great deal of change, such as now, companies are more
inclined to draw upon Advisory Boards. The clear secular trend, however, is away from the advisory
arrangements of a generation ago that were vague in purpose and frequently not time bound. Today’s
Advisory Boards are much more likely to be formed to address a particular challenge and established for
a given period.
