On 17th September 2021 Fidelio and the German British Roundtable (GBR) hosted a webinar with Andy Burnham, at the time Mayor of Greater Manchester.

Key themes included devolution, as well as building relationships and deepening cooperation between the UK and Germany.

Takeaways included:

· A focus on building city-to-city links, eg Greater Manchester and the Ruhr region industrial conurbation with cooperation between business, universities and youth exchange

· Sharing best practice on accelerating decarbonisation and digitalisation, including synthesising green and digital technologies (for example, low-emission transportation and zero-carbon homes)

· The opportunities devolution presents to level up across England rebuilding from the original ‘Northern Powerhouse’ concept
